School offers postgraduate scholarships to Brazilians working in the public sector

The Hertie School , in partnership with the Republic Institute , is receiving applications for scholarships for postgraduate studies in public policy. The objective of the " Scholarships for Public Servants in Brazil " is to assist in the training of public servants who work managing teams or directly in Human Resources. Enrollment runs until May 1 or June 1 , depending on the desired course.

Scholarships are available for three master's programs offered by the school. They are the Master of Public Policy (MPP, master in public policy), Master of International Affairs (MIA, master in international affairs) and the Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA, executive master in public administration). More information about each of the programs can be seen in the respective links.

Selected candidates will receive at least 50% exemption from tuition fees for courses, which represents a value of more than 8 thousand euros. The exact amount of each exemption will be determined based on the material submitted by the candidate throughout the selection process. In return, scholarship holders must commit to working in the Brazilian public sector after completing the course.

Registration for scholarships for postgraduate studies in public policy

People who have at least two years of experience working in the Brazilian public sector can apply for the scholarship. The focus, according to the school, is people who work “primarily in the human resources sector, or who work managing teams”. To get an idea of the student profile to which the scholarships are destined, check out the experience of Brazilian Gabriela Andrade , who is attending the Executive MPA.

To apply for scholarships, you must first complete the application process for the aforementioned master's programs. This can be done through this link (for MPP or MIA) or through this link (for EMPA). Registration requires the applicant to upload documents such as CV, motivation letter, English certificate and academic record.

It is also necessary for the candidate to provide two letters of recommendation. Those who graduated from 2017 onwards will need to send two letters from teachers; candidates who have graduated before that must send a letter of recommendation from a teacher and another from a professional contact.

Hertie School recommends that applicants use a form for letters of recommendation that it offers. It can be accessed here .

Then, scholarship applicants must send an email to grad-admissions [at] hertie-school [dot] with a summary of their relevant professional activity. The text should specify whether the candidate worked on a team or led people, and should focus on the impact of their work and their future career plans. Applications must be submitted by May 1 for the MPP or MIA, or by June 1 for the EMPA.

Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Hertie is taking a series of steps to continue with classes (and selection) in the best possible way. Classes are being taught in a hybrid model, so that students who are unable to travel will be able to participate. Brazilians, however, do not need a visa to enter Germany, and according to the school most Brazilian students managed to get to the city in time for the start of classes. Some courses are also being offered 100% online.
